Brown Announces State Grants for Improvement Projects in the 9th District

HARRISBURG – In an effort to improve safety, transportation, infrastructure and water quality, Rep. Marla Brown (R-Lawrence) announced today the awarding of more than $1.9 million in state funding for community improvements in the 9th Legislative District.

“Improving our community infrastructure is essential to ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents,” said Brown. “These grants will help our local governments and organizations make critical upgrades to wastewater systems, transportation projects and public facilities - all of which are crucial for fostering long-term economic growth. As someone who is deeply committed to advancing our region's economic development, I’m proud to be part of these efforts, helping to build a foundation for a thriving community and a better quality of life for families in the 9th District.”

The local grants included:

• Bessemer Municipal Authority - $450,000 to upgrade its aging wastewater treatment plant located in Bessemer Township. In addition, the roof of the building is deteriorating and will be replaced.
• Lawrence County - $100,000 to complete renovations to the Stavich Bike Trail in New Castle. The project funds will be used for construction, engineering and administrative costs.
• Lawrence County Economic Development Corporation - $225,000 for renovations to the Cedar Street Industrial Office Building located in New Castle.
• Mahoning Township - $150,000 to rehabilitate the pumpstation located in Lawrence County. The project will replace worn out existing equipment at the wastewater treatment plant and pump station.
• North Beaver Township Municipal Authority - $150,000 for electrical improvements to the Hickory View sewage treatment plant located in North Beaver Township. The funding will be used for the purchase and installation of equipment, engineering and administrative costs.
• South New Castle Borough - $75,000 for the construction of a salt shed building. The new facility will provide increased storage capacity, improved salt management, cost savings, and efficiency and safety improvements.
• Taylor Township - $500,000 for sewage treatment plant upgrades to meet state environmental standards.
• Wilmington Township - $436,454 to purchase a new tractor with several attachments to replace a 25-year-old mower and equipment that continues to break down with costly repairs.

The grants were approved and awarded by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, which was established as an independent agency that holds fiduciary responsibility over the funding of programs and investments in Pennsylvania’s economic growth. LSA grants are derived from gaming revenues.
