HARRISBURG – Rep. Marla Brown (R-Lawrence) today announced that the Office of the State Fire Commissioner awarded more than $129,000 in grant awards to nine fire and emergency medical services departments in the 9th Legislative District.

Projects eligible for funding included construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training or reduction of existing debt. All grants are generated from slot machine gaming proceeds and not General Fund tax revenue. These dollars are distributed through the Pennsylvania Fire Company and Emergency Medical Service Grant Program.

“We owe a debt of gratitude to our first responders,” said Brown. “We are grateful for all those who sacrifice their time to help another in their time of need. Everyone gains by giving but remembering to be grateful to those that incur sacrifice on our behalf is always worthy of thankfulness.”

The following Lawrence County fire and EMS companies in the 9th District received grants:

Hickory Township Volunteer Fire Department - $12,598.
Mahoning Township Volunteer Fire Department - $13,335.
Neshannock Volunteer Fire Department - $15,000.
New Wilmington Fire Department - $12,598.
North Beaver Volunteer Fire Department - $13,089.
Pulaski Township Volunteer Fire Department - $12,352.
Pulaski Township EMS - $10,000.
Shenango Township Volunteer Fire Department - $27,536.
Union Township Volunteer Fire Department - $12,598.

Fire and ambulance companies are reminded that in order to receive their grants and retain their eligibility for the program, paperwork must be submitted back to the Office of State Fire Commissioner by the end of May.
