HARRISBURG – Rep. Marla Brown (R-Lawrence) today announced that she has been appointed by House Republican Leader Bryan Cutler (R-Lancaster) to serve as the chairman of the Subcommittee Chairman on Local Business under the House Commerce Committee for the 2023-24 Legislative Session.
“It is an honor to be named a subcommittee chairman, and I thank Leader Cutler for making this appointment,” said Brown. “With my strong business approach and experience dealing with employers and employees issues, I will be able to focus on a core mission of this committee – business, finance and economic development.”
The House Commerce Committee is responsible for originating legislation and overseeing implementation of programs which affect Pennsylvania companies. The committee has primary jurisdiction over corporate governance through the business corporation law, as well as regulates offers of sale and credit through such statutes as the Goods and Services Installment Sales Act, the Unfair Sales Act, and the Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection acts.
The committees are where all bills are first sent and reviewed. During the committee process, amendments can be offered, discussion on the bills takes place and sometimes public or informational hearings are held to gather more information on a legislative issue before a vote is taken on whether to advance a bill for a vote before the full House.
Brown also serves on the House Health and Aging and Older Services committees.
