HARRISBURG – Rep. Marla Brown (R-Lawrence) is pleased to announce Lawrence County has been awarded a $72,675 Municipal Waste Planning Grant by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). This funding will be used to revise and update the county's Solid Waste Management Plan, ensuring that Lawrence County remains a leader in effective waste management and environmental stewardship.
“Securing this grant is a significant achievement for Lawrence County,” said Brown. “The updated Solid Waste Management Plan will help us address the evolving needs of our community, promote sustainability and protect our environment for future generations.”
The Municipal Waste Planning Grant Program is designed to assist counties in Pennsylvania in developing and implementing solid waste management plans that are in line with the latest regulations and environmental standards. The revised plan will guide the county in managing municipal waste, recycling efforts, and other related environmental initiatives.
“I am committed to supporting initiatives that improve the quality of life for residents in Lawrence County, and this grant is a prime example of how we can leverage state resources to benefit our local community,” added Brown.
The DEP's investment in Lawrence County is part of a broader effort to enhance waste management practices across the Commonwealth. The updated plan will include strategies for reducing waste, increasing recycling rates, and ensuring waste management operations are both efficient and environmentally responsible.
