HARRISBURG - Rep. Marla Brown (R-Lawrence) today announced $1.5 million in funding will be allocated to public school districts within the 9th Legislative District through the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA) Public School Facility Improvement Grant program. The grants will support infrastructure upgrades across three local school districts.

“This investment in our local schools is an investment in the future of our children and communities,” said Brown. “By addressing critical needs such as HVAC, plumbing and safety upgrades, these grants ensure students and educators have the resources they need in facilities that support academic success. We are committed to creating a safe, modern and effective learning environment for every student in the 9th District.”

The following school districts will benefit from these grants:

• Mohawk Area School District - $650,000 for plumbing, HVAC, window replacement, and other health and safety projects at Mohawk Elementary School.
• New Castle Area School District - $200,000 for window replacement at George Washington Intermediate School.
• Union Area School District - $650,000 for a boiler replacement project at the middle/high School building.

“These improvements are long overdue, and I am proud to help support the funding that will ensure our schools can continue to provide a top-quality education in facilities that prioritize the well-being of students and staff,” said Brown.

The Public School Facility Improvement Grant program is designed to provide critical funding for eligible facility improvements in public school districts, helping to keep schools in excellent condition and equipped for the needs of 21st-century education.
