HARRISBURG – Rep. Marla Brown (R-Lawrence) today announced grants totaling $83,000 have been awarded to Lawrence County and New Castle City to fund recreational improvement projects through the Community Conservation Partnerships Program (C2P2).
“Parks and recreation centers provide gathering places for families and social groups, as well as for individuals of all ages and economic status,” said Brown. “These grants will help ensure our communities have safe, accessible spaces for recreation, while also enhancing the beauty and functionality of our local parks. Thanks to the Community Conservation Partnerships Program, Lawrence County and New Castle City will be able to improve and preserve these important public spaces for future generations to enjoy.”
• Lawrence County was awarded $13,400 to prepare a master site development plan for the 1-acre Lawrence County Veterans Park.
• New Castle City will receive $69,600 for the rehabilitation of Farrell Park. The work will include the construction of a pedestrian walkway and parking area, and the installation of play equipment and required safety surfacing.
The C2P2 program is administered by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Bureau of Recreation and Conservation to provide financial and technical assistance to local governments, river and trail organizations, land trusts, and other nonprofits for the planning, acquisition and development of park, recreation, conservation and greenways projects.
