LAWRENCE COUNTY – Rep. Marla Brown (R-Lawrence) today announced Lawrence County Social Services Inc., a local nonprofit organization, has been awarded $1.2 million in funding through the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED). This grant will support a regional project aimed at alleviating the housing crisis in western Pennsylvania, providing vital assistance to more than 600 households through emergency shelter, homelessness prevention, rapid rehousing and street outreach services.

“This funding represents a critical step forward in addressing the urgent housing needs of families and individuals in Lawrence County and surrounding areas,” said Brown. “By investing in the tools provided by Lawrence County Social Services, we are taking meaningful action to help our most vulnerable residents find stable housing and get the support they need to rebuild their lives. I’m proud to see our community leading the way in combating homelessness and providing hope to those in need.”

The grant is part of a larger $5.5 million allocation from the federal Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) program, designed to support municipalities and nonprofit organizations working to address homelessness and housing instability. A total of 14 municipalities and seven nonprofit organizations in 45 counties will benefit from these funds.

The federal Emergency Solutions Grant program, established under the HEARTH Act of 2009, aims to quickly rehouse individuals and families experiencing homelessness, prevent future homelessness, and ensure that emergency shelters are available for those in immediate need.

Brown said she will continue to advocate for solutions to the ongoing housing crisis in Pennsylvania and is committed to securing resources to support local communities in their efforts to provide sustainable housing options.
