LAWRENCE COUNTY – Rep. Marla Brown (R-Lawrence) today announced nearly $1.9 million in state funding has been awarded to Lawrence County municipalities through the Local Share Account (LSA) and the Greenways, Trails and Recreation Program (GTRP) to support infrastructure improvements and community development.
The following LSA grants, funded through gaming revenues, were awarded:
• Bessemer Municipal Authority – $325,000 for wastewater treatment plant upgrades, including a new headworks building and debris removal system.
• Mahoning Township – $625,000 for wastewater system improvements, including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition pump replacements and equipment upgrades.
• New Wilmington Borough – $100,000 for downtown Vine Street streetscape improvements.
• North Beaver Township Municipal Authority – $100,000 to replace aging grinder pumps in the sewage system.
• New Castle Sanitation Authority – $350,000 to purchase a sewer flusher truck and dump truck.
• Neshannock Township – $328,772 for outdoor improvements at the Hutchison Community Center.
Brown advocated for funding with Sen. Michele Brooks (R-Crawford/Lawrence/Mercer).
“These LSA grants help communities tackle costly infrastructure projects that are essential to public health and safety,” said Brown. “This funding will allow local governments to make needed upgrades while easing the burden on taxpayers.”
Brown also announced $150,000 in GTRP funding for recreational and historic preservation projects.
“Strong communities depend on places that connect people and encourage growth,” said Brown. “These projects preserve local history and expand recreational opportunities across Lawrence County.”
• City of New Castle – $100,000 to restore an historic 1922 carousel at the New Castle Public Library.
• Taylor Township – $50,000 for ADA-accessible playground upgrades at Taylor Township Park.
Both programs are administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support infrastructure, recreation and community enhancement projects across Pennsylvania.
